serivce learning...kinda
I will be doing my service learning at James Sales Elementary School. I work in the resource room with kids that have learning disabilities. Today I spent all of ten minutes helping the kids with their reading skills. I worked out the schedule where I will spend most of the next weeks with kids that need help with their math skills which I am looking forward to. The school is in a lower-mid class area with both black and white kids. I found it interesting that their speech is relatively the same among kids even from different races and ethnicities. I look forward to working with the kids more next week and will be able to comment more with more interaction.

ReplyDeleteThat's brilliant, and I had about that much time interacting with students today too, which is why that was one of my thoughts initially. However it was fun to meet some of the teachers and other specialty resource people around. I also got to help Alisha knock off several tasks on her to do list, and I had fun. She was so thankful since she does so much and has little extra time to do the organization and preparation tasks, so my day was really enjoyable getting to know her. I think I am with the same person you are next time though. But you know, we'll see what happens next week...
